Winter Driving

The fitting of winter tyres is not mandatory. However, in certain mountainous regions, winter tyres are necessary. Snow chains may be permitted as an alternative. Studded tyres are not permitted.

City Centre Driving

Some major french cities now require the CRIT’Air sticker to be affixed to the windscreen for inner-city driving.

Winter Driving

No general winter tyre regulations. Exceptions are indicated by traffic signs. Winter equipment is mandatory for vehicles driving on roads marked with the B26 sign. Studded tyres allowed from first Saturday before 11 November to last Sunday of March, max. speed 90 km/h. Vehicles with studded tyres have to be labelled with a sticker.

Driving Restrictions

Vehicles with a GVW over 7500kg are prohibited from travelling: from 22h00 on Saturdays and the eve of public holidays, until 22h00 on Sundays and public holidays.

  • Reflective jackets for each occupant
  • Warning triangle
  • Headlamp beam deflectors (depending on your car, you will either need deflector stickers or have to adjust the beam manually)
  • Breathalysers/alcohol test kit
  • Spare bulb kit
